Hillcrest Auckland

Architectural hillscape entrance featuring a wide, terraced timber-boxed staircase with concrete paving slab inlays, flanked by stacked timber retaining walls, lush native carex grasses, structural rosemary bushes, and formal standard topiary white roses leading to a black metal boundary gate.

Designed by For the Love of Landscape, the Hillcrest project demonstrates how strategic slope engineering can convert a steeply sloping residential entrance into a grand, high-impact arrival sequence. The design replaces an awkward hillside incline with a structured longitudinal axis of wide, terraced timber box-steps inset with crisp concrete paving, leading smoothly into narrow side-boundary transitions finished with permeable aggregate paths. This rigorous technical layout is balanced by a timeless, sensory-rich plant palette—combining cascading native carex grasses and sprawling lavender with highly structured standard White Iceberg roses and fragrant Star Jasmine—to soften the heavy masonry and timber retaining walls while establishing elite curb appeal for this North Shore property.
